Wizki Tales

Wizki’s Hero

Wizki had a hero called Barney. Barney was a real dog, a Boxer Dog who belonged to Fiona’s Mum and Dad. Wizki wanted to be just like Barney.

Wizki would hear stories of Barney’s escapades and would want to copy them, regardless of whether it was a good idea or not. This would get Wizki into all sorts of trouble.

Barney had been in a fight with another dog. Like most boxer dogs, Barney does not like to fight. He is actually a bit of a softie. A small Yorkshire Terrier had picked on him and the fight had left Barney scarred and a little nervous.

But to Wizki, Barney was a brave dog who was never afraid to raise his paws in anger to any other pup. Wizki felt he should do the same.

Wizki lived on the third floor of a block of flats, and there were no other dogs around to play with, never mind to fight.

So Wizki picked a fight with a squirrel. Two squirrels, in fact - Migg and Mogg.

Puppies live a pampered life indoors. Their owners provide proper meals. They live without fear of being eaten. Squirrels, on the other hand, live in the wild. They forage for food and are prey to foxes, who like to eat squirrels. Squirrels are tough guys. They have to be to survive.

So when Wizki pulled faces at Migg and Mogg from the bedroom window, as they sat in the tree opposite enjoying the gentle Autumn breeze, the squirrels made a point of finding a way into the flat and making Wizki say sorry. Squirrels hate rude puppies.

Wizki never thought the squirrels could break in to get him. But Fiona had left the bedroom window open to make sure Wizki got fresh air to fight his chest cold. She’d rubbed him with Vick before leaving for work. The squirrels had simply jumped from branch to branch and then leapt through the open bedroom window. Wizki was very scared to see the squirrels in the fur. He started to cry.

Migg and Mogg were kind squirrels. Once they realised Wizki was just a daft dog and not a real troublemaker, they took pity on him. Of course, they made sure Wizki said sorry, but after that they sat in the lounge and had a cup of tea and promised they would say hello the next time they saw Wizki out and about.

As they left, Migg asked Wizki if he had learnt his lesson.

“Yes, I have. I’ll never be rude to another squirrel ever again,” Wizki replied.

But Wizki never learns his lessons. He’s a Silly Pup.
