Poem (The note said
)
The note said the workshops iffy but still
be there so I waited by his battered
Lada with a note to say dont wait. He
was on time, smack on five and we were soon
well away, Billy Bragg on all-round-sound
conversation going well between two
non-meat-eaters meeting the next day
for a cup of tea or a meal and a few
jars. His friends death was a sticking point
but
hoisted over the Pennines we soon rolled
the darkening country lanes conversing
as if nothing had happened and pulled up
alongside his house in the rain. Do you
want some tea? he said and opened the door
without an answer. I can only give
you chips. I said, Sure, Simon, anything.
