From: "Bad Dreams At Night"
Gone in the Afternoon
How was Saturday so different
It had to come and change the pattern of our lives?
Why was Friday night so peaceful
With all the trouble that we'd found by Sunday night?
It's stupid, it's pointless and it's cruel
To be there in the morning
Gone in the afternoon
She phoned to wake me in the morning
My eyes were heavy but her tone was warm and light.
Looking back there was no warning
Nothing to say that she might take that drive
It's stupid, it's pointless and it's cruel
To be there in the morning
Gone in the afternoon
Then I found I'd graduated.
We put our glad-rags on and got the flags out
Till the early hours we celebrated
Returned to the news that left us right back on the ground
It's stupid, it's pointless and it's cruel
To be there in the morning
Gone in the afternoon
And I'd like to tell you
How she lived her life
But with her passing
The chance to know her has died
She fell asleep while she was driving.
As she slept the car moved across the road.
As the moment came, she must have been dreaming.
A dream so beautiful she never awoke
It's stupid, it's pointless and it's cruel
To be there in the morning
Gone in the afternoon
